According to the Director of Health Regulation of the Health Institute of Mexico, there are no reports of circulation of medicines apocryphal, but does not exclude sale at some points.
He listed some characteristics and advises how to identify an original drug from a fake one as follows:
1. Always buy drugs in established places. To have greater confidence, verify that the local have a business license, which must be issued by the health authorities. If the establishment has this document, also means that the products it sells are reviewed periodically.
2. Special permits. A considerable number of inhabitants of Mexico requires the supply of narcotics and psychotropic substances for treatment, in this case the consumer should check that the pharmacy acquired a special permit to offer them.
3. Review of the packaging of the drug. The box or wrapping of the drug should not be broken on tops, not dented or have any kind of damage. Otherwise, it may mean that it has been filled with an apocryphal or expired product.
4. Sanitary registration number. Each box of medicines authorized to be sold in any state of Mexico, must have this element into view on the package. The sanitary registration is an alphanumeric data printed on all boxes and available to be validated on the COFEPRIS (Federal Commission of Protection Against Sanitary Risks) records on this link .
5. Name of Laboratory. By law, the medicines sold in the country must have the name of the laboratory where they are produced, it is known that in the apocryphal medicines this information is hidden or not placed.
6. Elements of own security. Some laboratories have implemented various codes on the packaging of the medicines in order to avoid the most counterfeit products. Such is the case of holograms and bar code.
7. Batch and Tax ID (RFC in Mexico). This data is mandatory to be included in the boxes of medicines and is used to identify the origin of each product.
8. Do not consume drugs in bulk. The Director of Health Regulation of the Health Institute of Mexico, stated that the user should not trust on those medicines sold by kilogram, i.e. without a container that supports them.
